Spend Time with God
EVERY Day
by Simon Whitton
But the one who received the seed
that
fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He
produces
a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown."
Matt 13:23 (NIV)
Seeds are small, yet they can
produce a large crop. This crop in turn produces its own seeds that can
yield
an exponentially huge harvest.
He
told them another parable: "The
kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted
in his
field.
Though it is the smallest of all your
seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and
becomes a
tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches."
Matt 13:31-32 (NIV)
We are so
familiar with it,
we miss the amazing miracle. How
is it
that something as apparently primitive as a seed, can be placed in the
dirt,
add water, give it a little time and up springs (all by itself) a
large,
complex, self-sustaining tree. From
something small can spring something much greater than we realize.
There is
something small that
we can do that will result in a much larger than expected harvest. Spend time with God EVERY
day. It
doesn’t have to be much, just a few
minutes. Read a
short devotional each
day and spend a little time praying.
A
pinch of salt added to food
can change the whole flavour. A
little
time spent with God will change the whole flavour of your day. This is especially
important during those
difficult times in our lives. But
do
this every day and He will change the flavour of your whole
life.
He told
them still another parable:
"The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into a
large amount of flour until it worked all through the dough."
Matt 13:-33 (NIV)
‘A
little yeast working all through
the dough’ was a common expression in first century Israel, but it usually had a negative or
corrupting meaning,
similar to “one bad apple can spoil the whole
barrel”. It was
usually a reference to sin, but here Jesus used it to show how a little
of the kingdom of God
will spread and go far. He
replaced sin
with the kingdom of God!
God delights
in making a small
amount go a long way. Let
Him bring
growth to your life; that those around you will feel your influence and
shelter
in your branches. Even
subsequent
generations will feel the shadow of the time you spent with the Lord.
Take a few
moments to pray
right now. Ask God
for grace and for
practical help, so that you
will spend at least some time with Him
daily.
