Do You Have Enough?

by Simon Whitton

1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
5 You hem me in-- behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

Psalm 139:1-7 (NIV)

Even in the western world, we often think that we are not going to have enough. Sometimes its money, time, energy, sleep, help, friends, even food, or perhaps faith.

This causes us to worry.  We focus on what we lack, thinking through how we can and can't change the situation we are in or see looming in front of us.

But 'do you have enough?' is actually the wrong question; it should be: 'do you have God?'

I came downstairs a little earlier than usual this morning; it was still dark and quiet and I was a bit surprised to immediately sense the presence of God.  Later I found out that my wife Janine had been in the living room praying when I came downstairs.

This is interesting because when Janine was praying she had not felt God in the room with her.  But I can testify that He truly was.

We may not feel God's presence, but the fact is that 'we do have God'.  He knows what we need before we even ask.  He is fully aware of your concerns, and he surrounds you - he hems you in - with his presence, whether you realize it or not.

When you do actually feel His presence, you get a glimpse of what's going on in the spiritual realm around you.  As God enters a situation, calm and order enter with Him.  Panic and worry are dispersed and replaced by a sense that everything is under His control, and it's going to be all right.  He brings with Him all the provision you will need.

Bring God's presence into your situation through prayer.
